Grocery deliveries, what a great idea until the driver parks on your lawn, practically on your front porch. Your car is not my lawn ornament!
I started using the grocery pick up option at my local grocery store a few years ago, before the pandemic began. It was great. The worst part of grocery shopping was dodging the people and their abandoned carts in the middle of the aisles. I definitely get cart rage when trying to get around all the inconsiderate obstacles. Since the pandemic began, my local grocery store started offering free grocery deliveries with purchases of $50. With teenagers, I am well over that minimum every week. I felt a bit lazy though. It’s not like it takes much effort to pull into the parking lot and pop my trunk, I didn’t really feel like I needed to take advantage of the delivery service.
Giving Delivery a Try
Well, 4 weeks ago, I had surgery to repair a torn retina and was unable to drive so I scheduled a delivery. The first 3 went fine. Delivery number 4, not so much. Not only was my delivery 2 hours late, but the driver who barely spoke English put all my groceries on the front porch. I went outside to collect them, and the driver kept telling me “No”. She proceeded to take my bags and start walking back towards her car. I asked what she was doing, and she repeated “No” at me. I tried to collect my bags and she kept telling me “No” and taking them. What was going on?? I was so confused so I call customer service.
Customer service tells me that drivers are not allowed to complete delivery if they have any frozen foods in their possession for more than one hour, so it looks like when she was trying to complete the delivery in the app it told her to return all products to the store for exchange. Now I am really frustrated because my dinner was just taken back to the grocery store, and I have hangry teenagers filling up on junk food since dinner isn’t here or ready. Should I be better prepared, absolutely, but here we are and I’m cranky anyway.
I work an early shift and we usually eat dinner by 5pm. It is now almost 8pm and we all have eaten breakfast for dinner. Not good breakfast, we ate cereal and frozen waffles. The store found another driver to bring out my groceries. He avoids my driveway that runs alongside my house and drives through my front yard and parks with his bumper practically against my front porch. I go out to say something to him and he is talking on his phone completely ignoring me. Then I started to take pictures of where his car was located and then began to carry in my groceries. I ask him where my case of water was because it was obviously missing. He continued to talk on his cell phone, never saying a word to me. So here I am calling customer service again.
No Longer Accepting Deliveries
Moral of my story is that I will not be signing up for the grocery delivery anymore. I am back to driving and will be back to picking up my groceries. What questions my sanity is how can people think it is OK to drive through a customer’s yard, anyone’s yard for that matter? Why would that cross anyone’s mind to do that? My driveway is not hidden. My street is well lit. My outdoor lighting was on. As lazy as I feel having my groceries delivered could not compare to the laziness of being PAID to be a grocery delivery person and driving through a customer’s yard because I didn’t want to carry the groceries the addition 35 feet from the driveway. My lawn is not a well-manicured lawn by any means, but it is still my private property and obviously not a driveway! Your car is not my lawn ornament! Am I crazy to be so outraged by this type of behavior?
Crazy Babble or Just My Voice of Reason??
Yep, I think this is the babbles of a crazy person. But that’s OK because I think I was babbling with some reason. Definitely not my most opinionated post, but still let me know what you think.
I’m liking your content but this one was more of a rant. Still looking forward to future posts & voting in a few days
This was more of a rant that I usually like to write. There will be another post tomorrow morning.
