Worst on the First is a monthly review of the most outlandish things that made me question my sanity from the prior month. Am I losing my mind or am I just a voice of reason?
It is that time again where I look back on what made me question my sanity last month. Below are my posts from last month. Check out the recaps, check out the entire posts, just check them out and let me know what you think. I invite everyone to vote at the bottom. This lets me know what you think. I am very curious to know what everyone else thinks was the most irrational thought I had posted about.
The Whisper Game
The first up is The Whisper Game. This post is questioning the accuracy of our history books. I wonder how we have come to know our facts about some of the most notorious pandemics in history. Many of them happened so long ago in times of limited means. I really question the record keeping during these times of crisis. I’m not claiming foul play, I’m just saying this may be a case of the Whisper Game.
In addition to my questioning of the information I was taught about pandemics of the past, I have concern about how the present pandemic will read in tomorrow’s history books. When I used to play the whisper game as a child, the phase originally given was never the same as the phrase the last person heard. I feel like these are pretty rational questions and fears.
Let’s Talk
This one is mainly about the leak of the possible overturn of Roe v Wade. As much as I believe that abortion would never be the right choice for me, it should still be my choice. We should have certain rights, but we do not have to take advantage of these rights. Just because we have the freedom of religion does not mean we need to practice religion, but we can if we choose. We have the right to bear arms, but we do not have to own a gun, but we can if we choose. And if we have the right to terminate an unwanted pregnancy, we would never be forced to end a wanted pregnancy, but it should be our choice.
I feel this thought process is rational. Obviously not everyone finds this thought process to cut and dry. Reasonable people should be able to share their opinions and have a respecful conversation about this touchy topic. So… let’s talk about it.
A Police Presence is Not Intimidating to the Innocent
In this post, I express my confusion about why an undercover police presence near voting drop boxes is so intimidating. In addition to not understanding why people are so upset over this, I also do not understand why people are upset about not being able to vote for others. It is clearly stated that you cannot drop off votes for another person, just as you cannot vote in person for another individual.
If these laws are not being followed, wouldn’t it be logical to have police enforce the law? Is that not the job of police, to enforce the law? If the problem you have is with the law itself, shouldn’t the uproar be directly at the legislators, not the police? Again, I find this the be a very sane thought process. But clearly, it is not the thought process of everyone.
The Purpose of This
This post shares a more in-depth reason as to why I began writing this blog. It’s second purpose was to share my opinions of some negative, unproductive comments I have received about my previous post, A Police Presence is Not Intimidating to the Innocent. Since none of the comments I received were anything other than name calling, no discussion has developed. If people do not share my opinion, that is fine. Not everyone has to agree. But I have asked repeatedly in that post, and every other post for that matter, to please share the whys behind their opinions.
I feel that I am a pretty rational and open-minded person. I believe that open ears lead to an open mind. We are not able to walk in someone else’s shoes but hearing their opinions and discussing them is as close as we can get. Through meaningful, respectful conversations is how we all grow. That is what I am looking for and that is why I began this blog. That doesn’t seem crazy to me.
Crazy Babble or Just My Voice of Reason??
Worst on the First is a monthly review of the most unreasonable things that made me question my sanity from the prior month. So, I am looking to find out if the way the world works, and the way other people think are crazy or if I am the crazy one. Sanity is a tricky thing. Please select the post below that is the most unreasonable because I need some help figuring out if I am just babbling like a crazy person or sharing my voice of reason.
And don’t forget to check out the results of May’s Worst on the First! They should be up and ready to view.
