When is enough, enough? Why can we not put on our big boy and big girl pants and realize that we are the problem? I am tired of hearing ridiculous excuses, just admit that this is your fault! No one wants to take personal responsibility for anything anymore. Everyone has someone or something to blame.
Law Suits:
Now a days it seems like a common reaction to doing something stupid is to file a lawsuit. I am constantly hearing about frivolous lawsuits for ridiculous things, and no one seems outraged.
When someone abuses addictive pain medication, of course you should sue the drug manufacturer. It absolutely is the manufacturer’s fault that you are taking more than the recommended dosage for longer than prescribed and now have a drug problem. Where is the personal responsibility for lack of self-control?
When someone is a horrible employee with poor attendance and no work ethic, of course you should sue your employer. It is absolutely wrongful termination when your boss does not continue to pay you to do a subpar job at work. Where is the personal responsibility for your responsibilities?
When someone or some company hurts your feelings, of course you should sue that person or that company. It is absolutely emotional distress when you do not get your own way and feel bad about it. Where is the personal responsibility for common sense?
The courts are clogged up with ridiculous lawsuits because no one has any personal responsibility. People do not need to sue over everything, they need to grow up and just admit that this is your fault.
Disease:
Disease is defined as a condition of the living animal or plant body or of one of its parts that impairs normal functioning and is typically manifested by distinguishing signs and symptoms by Merriam-Webster. There are many things that impair normal function that are not diseases. Is anger a disease? When I’m angry, that impairs my normal function. Is lazy a disease? That too impairs my normal function. What about jealousy?
Alcoholism:
Alcoholism is a growing problem, but it is not a disease. Yes, it may impair your normal function, but so do many other things that are also not diseases. Drinking alcohol is a choice. A choice you can choose to stop. It may be difficult to stop, but it isn’t impossible like choosing to stop having an actual disease like cancer. Yes, drinking can be addictive, but so can smoking. Is smoking a disease? Of course not. Not only is drinking not a disease, but it is also not an excuse for poor behavior.
Stress:
Stress is something that happens to everyone from time to time. Life can be very stressful. When you are stressed, it may temporarily impair your normal function, but it is not a disease. People tend to allow themselves to be stressed out over too many things. People are often not taking care of themselves and take on too much causing themselves to stress. As real as stress is, it is not a real excuse for poor behavior.
Depression:
Depression is a disease, but over diagnosed and often self-diagnosed. Feeling down in the dumps for a few days or having a life event making you sad is not having depression. These are not reasons to pop a pill and claim you have a disease. These are not an excuse to throw a pity party and blame your poor behavior on.
Where does it end? Not everything is a disease and it definitely not an excuse for your choices. Alcoholism, stress, and depression are common fall guys lately for poor behavior. It’s time to grow up and admit that your decisions are not because of your fake disease, your poor decisions are your fault.
Political Correctness:
There is nothing correct with political correctness. I do not believe that people should be running around screaming racial slurs or anything, but political correctness is doing more harm than good. This is nothing more than giving ideas of excuses to people who refuse to take personal responsibility. It is also guilting others into keeping their outrage quiet out of fear of being offensive.
The more things added to the list of politically correct things to say just promotes more outlandish things to be added. It will never end. People just keep pushing the envelope of this concept. We are now at the point where syrup that has been around for over 130 years has to be renamed and their logo changed. Other businesses, cars, school mascots…they are being renamed and given new logos all the time.
The requirements of schools are getting out of hand. This whole safe space thing is ridiculous. How will children ever grow up to be able to deal with the real world when they have been living in their safe space? When kids feel sad, a teacher goes through an investigation. When a student isn’t listening or following the rules, there is very little that can be said by a teacher or staff without offending the student.
Shame of Shame:
I think there are more people against the frivolous expansion of political correctness than admit it. The PC people get very nasty with their shaming. It’s not acceptable to body shame or slut shame, but it’s OK to shame those who do not agree with today’s politically correct rules. No one is supposed to notice that double standard. At the end of the day, political correctness is becoming nothing more than a list of excuses to not take personal responsibility and admit that your problems are your problems, and this is your fault.
Crazy Babble or Just My Voice of Reason??
I cannot be the only one who feels this way. Maybe not everyone will admit it, but I think there are more like me out there. If I’m wrong, please explain to me what I’m wrong about. I know I can spew some crazy babble, but I do feel this was written with a voice of reason.
An interesting discussion is worth comment. I think that you should write more on this topic, it might not be a taboo subject but generally people are not enough to speak on such topics. To the next. Cheers
I really like it when individuals come together and share thoughts. Great blog, stick with it!
